With exquisite cuisine and entertaining performances, Elegant Night is a delightful part of the cruise experience. Unless otherwise noted, all items on these new Carnival main dining room menus are included in the price of your cruise. However, guests are limited to two entrée selections. At the time of writing, Carnival’s breakfast dining room menu remains the same. Breakfast options continue to include things like eggs benedict, vanilla French toast, omelets, a breakfast bowl, pancakes, a smoked salmon bagel, waffles, and oatmeal. They also offer a port day express breakfast consisting of eggs, bacon, sausage, bread/pastries, and orange juice — designed to get guests in and out and on their way quickly.
The cost is $26, with an 18 percent service charge automatically added. You’ll find favorites like a shrimp cocktail, Caesar salad, and roasted tomato soup elsewhere. This is the second of two sections on the new menus featuring for-fee items normally found in specialty restaurants. As expected, this is where you’ll see a variety of dishes covering the gauntlet on the Carnival Cruise Line menus, from Seafood Newburg to Beef Wellington. One of the most exciting additions to the menu is a section called ‘Emeril’s Select,’ which are dishes Carnival says are “personally recommended” by Lagasse. These include things like crab and shrimp cake, BBQ salmon, crawfish strudel, jambalaya pasta, coffee glazed roast duck, and fried Mississippi catfish. Swirls soft serve machines are available on all ships and feature chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry soft serve ice cream and yogurt. This omelette station is available on all Carnival ships at breakfast at the Lido Marketplace buffet. Cucina del Capitano is available on the Mardi Gras, Celebration, and Jubilee. Blue Iguana Cantina is available on all Carnival ships except the Splendor (see note about the Venezia below).
The two ships that sail down under, Carnival Luminosa and Carnival Splendor, will receive the new dining menu at the start of 2024. Elegant Night on Carnival Cruise Line follows a suggested dress code that encourages guests to embrace a more formal style of dressing. While formal attire is not mandatory, most guests choose to wear cocktail dresses, dress shirts with ties, suits, or even tuxedos. This gives everyone a chance to showcase their personal style and adds to the elegance of the evening. Of course many drinks on a Carnival cruise will also cost extra, including soda, specialty coffee, and alcoholic beverages.
Other items on the menu rotate, including treats like Panna Cotta and Hazelnut Mousse. One change that not everyone loves — and some have campaigned to have changed — is that the Cheese Plate is only offered one night as a dessert. The menu will feature a specific entree salad each evening, something cruisers have requested for years. For example, on one of the dinner menus, the Pappardelle with Braised Lamb is listed as an appetizer and also, further down, as an entree. One of the first things we noticed is that you’ll find a smaller portion of one of the main entrees offered as an appetizer each day.
Last November, Carnival made several food-related changes, including charging for a third entree in the main dining room, removing 24-hour ice cream, and modifying the hours of the round-the-clock pizza. Rollout dates for Carnival Pride and Carnival Venezia have not been announced. The upcoming Carnival Jubilee will feature the new menu shortly after entering service in December. Another addition is the highly-requested ‘Featured Salad’ section, which includes a different salad entrée each night.
Carnival Cruise Line also features a variety of specialty restaurants on its ships available for an up-charge. These include everything from an upscale steakhouse to sushi and teppanyaki. While you won’t find anything involving molecular gastronomy, you’ll find steak, fish, salads, soups, and vegetarian offerings… pretty much what you expect on any cruise line. Cruise Cruise Line menus undergo an extensive makeover every few years. The changes make some guests wary, while others are happy to see the new choices in the main dining room.
